Wedding Photography


This program addresses all aspects of wedding photography, covering four locations of home, church, park and reception, using window light, outdoor natural light, mixed light sources, and multiple lighting using flash, and a variety of lenses.

(a) Communication with subjects:

i) Before the wedding - power point presentation to music.
  • facial analysis of couple.
  • importance of make-up.
  • soft focus to create a romantic mood.
  • choices of formal or informal portrait backgrounds and outdoor locations. · square print concepts.
  • PRE-SELLING THE WEDDING.
  • importance of enough time to photograph at bride's home and after the ceremony.
ii) During the wedding
  • showing Polaroids to couple and allowing parents and/or bride and groom to look through the camera during the portrait session.
iii) After the wedding
  • Ensure power point presentation with music is ready to be presented to the couple as soon as they return from their honeymoon!
On Location Natural Light Wedding
Subtractive Light Wedding (b) Psychology of Casual Posing and Natural Expression:

  • this is accomplished during an engagement portrait, showing the couple how to pose comfortably.
  • engagement portrait displayed at reception.
  • getting together with couple one week before the wedding to go over times, places and names of important people.
  • map showing directions to park given out to all wedding party and family members.
(c) Use of Window Light and Reflectors:
  • use of soft light when bride is most nervous before the wedding.
  • proper exposure and keeping light ratio within the printing range of paper.
  • proper use of reflectors.
  • soft focus used to minimize retouching.
(d) Learning to see and control light:

  • establishing a proper Exposure Index under various lighting conditions.
  • looking for proper light direction with natural light to avoid "raccoon eyes".
  • use of bare bulb if needed to control light.
  • making sure subject and background do not compete for attention.
  • subtractive lighting with black umbrellas
  • proper "angle of incidence vs angle of reflectance" to produce brilliant highlights.
Window Light Bridal
High Key Studio Bride (e) Storytelling:
  • initially with engagement portrait or on wedding day, using activity to make the portrait more unique.
(f) Use of accessories.

  • Lindahl double bellows lens shade for proper vignetting to produce a custom negative and a candid print.
  • use of a Singh-Ray SRUV filter to eliminate cold colour cast in low light.
  • use of multiple lighting at reception to avoid black backgrounds, and to provide separation of subjects from background.
This program is supplemented by the use of power point presentations. If possible, depending on the time of day or weather, he will conduct a "hands-on" session in an outdoor/indoor location with a bride and groom.
